Cruise Activities Guide for First Time Cruisers
If you are new to taking a cruise, you may wonder what type of cruise activities there are to do. Rest assure, boredom will not be a problem.
Cruise ships offer plenty of activities, which can make a day as interesting and exhausting as a full day of sightseeing.
Activities range from rock climbing to cooking classes, to wine tasting to trivia contests, to rope courses and water slides.
Fancy a massage, a trip to the hairdresser or lounging around the pool? No problem. All these things and more await you on your chosen cruise ship. Shopping for souvenirs or even a glide across the ice is possible.
The main problem for you will be to work out what to fit into your holiday program.
Daily Bulletin
It will not be difficult to find out what is offered each day with a daily newsletter being delivered to your cabin each evening.
In this newsletter, you will find the schedule for the next day’s activities.
If you are travelling with children and they are registered for the onboard kids club, they will receive their own daily schedule of age-appropriate activities.
Cruise liners have also developed mobile apps as an alternative to the printed programme. On board your cruise liner you will find information on the app needed to provide you with the daily event schedule.
Daytime Offerings
To ensure there is something on offer for everyone, cruise liners offer a wide range of activities.
Get active activities include pool games; basketball or volleyball tournaments; improving your golf swing, and dance lessons.
Indoor less strenuous activities include attending a history lecture; card games, such as bridge; bingo (with an additional fee); napkin folding/flower arranging; an art auction; trivia games; cooking demonstrations and wine tasting.
There are many more activities to choose from once you are on board. Most importantly, you can always retreat to your cabin for a well-deserved nap.
The Gym and Spa
Most, if not all cruise ships offer the latest and greatest in gym equipment, from cardio machines to weight training.
Usually there will be a separate exercise room for exercise classes and afterwards, you can visit the spa.
The spa is where you will indulge in things like a massage a facial or other pampering treatments.
Evening Programme
At night, you can let your hair down as the ship takes on a Vegas aura.
Visit the casinos to play the slot machines or try your luck at poker or blackjack.
If this is not your scene, you can relax in one of the lounges and listen to live bands and cabaret singers. And late at night, the disco is open, where the fun will really begin.
The Kids' Programme
The kids are not left out either. Family-friendly cruise liners offer multiple play areas for the younger cruisers.
There are discos, a kiddie pool, teen hangouts, water slides and a kids-focused deck space.
Some of the cruise ships offer other activities like scavenger hunts, pyjama parties, art and craft activities as well as organised games.
All you have to do is choose what activity you are going to do each day, and then enjoy.
